Pain Management in Emergency Department

Pain is one of the most frequent complaints of emergency department’s referrals. Aside of the cause of pain, high degree of pain score, changes the level of patient’s triage. It means the emergency Physician should visit this patient in shorter time and manage his/her pain as soon as possible. Furthermore, if a painful or invasive procedure is necessary for a patient in emergency department, the emergency physician should reduce his/her pain as much as possible. In the emergency department, pain could be manage with a range of medicines from oral tablets to intravenous opiates and an emergency medicine specialist should personalize the type of medicine and way of prescription in each patient considering his/her examination, past medical history, drug sensitivities and also pain score and certainly decision making considering all of these points in the very short time in emergent condition is complicated and needs precision and awareness.
