چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim: Anemia in infants is a common problem in the world. Regular iron supplementation is a suggested policy for prevention and control of anemia. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and some Determinant Factors of anemia as well as benefits of regular iron supplementation among 6-12 month-old children. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 897 children aged from 6 to 12 months covered by Tabas Health Centers, were enrolled in the study. Demographic and anthropometric data as well as the level of hemoglobin were collected through interviews and laboratory tests, respectively. Data analysis was performed using SPSS-22 and stata-13. Chi-square, polychromic PCA, and logistic regression were used. The statistical significance level was 0.05. Results: The prevalence of anemia, according to the W.H.O criterion for hemoglobin, was 36.8% (95% CI: 33.6-40.0). Its Prevalence had decreasing trend along with an increment in age and duration of iron supplement. Each 1-month higher for age of infants was associated with a decreased risk of anemia [OR = 0.88 (95 % CI: 0.80-0.98)]. Anemia was not significantly different between genders. Individuals in the highest category for parity were at 2.3-fold increased risk of anemia compared with the lowest category [OR=2.35 (95% CI: 1.43-3.84)]. In contrast, individuals in the highest category for mother s age had decreased risk of anemia, compared with the lowest category [OR=0.38 (95% CI: 0.20-0.72)].Conclusion: regular iron supplementation among Iranian regular iron supplementation among Iranian 6-12 month-old children has deceased anemia.
