چکیده مقاله:

The freshwater deficit in some Arab countries has led many of these countries to use and exploit high salinity water in irrigation such as well water or drainage water. A field experiment was conducted in the Karbala governorate to show the possibility of using well water and drainage water as an alternative to river water. The experiment also aims to state the impact on of the alternative water on the productivity of broadbeans. For this purpose, water has been used with different treatments: Irrigating with river water only.- Irrigating with drainage water only.- Irrigating with well water only.- Irrigating with river water and drainage water.- Irrigating with river water and well water.- Irrigating with well water and drainage water.- Irrigating with river water ,well water and drainage water.- The field was divided into a number of plots, the area of each one is 3 * 4, with a 2m interval between the coefficients and a 2m distance between the replications. Five seeds were placed in each hill and then diluted to 3 plants after 7 days of germination. The results showed that salinity values were high in soil compared with irrigation by river water. However, there were no significant differences whether irrigating with drainage water, with a mix of river water and drainage water, or with a mix of river water and well water. It was found that the salinity of such treatments was (5.8, 4.7 and 5.2), respectively, due to the salinity of irrigation water. The results also showed that the values of the ready water were higher in the soils that were irrigated with river water compared to the soils that were irrigated with drainage or well water, the values were 20.0, 16.3 and 11.1, respectively. On the other hand, after mixing river the well water as well as mixing river with drainage water, the water readiness of the plant increased more than that of well or drainage water alone, the values of this mixing were 13.8 and 17.5, respectively. In like manner, the water readiness value increased to 13.9 when mixing river with well water. The results of Table (2) showed that irrigation with river water led to increasing the height of the plant to reach 65.5 cm, while the irrigation with drainage or well water gave the lowest increase to the plant height to reach 58.1 and 50.3, respectively. Moreover, when mixing river with well water or mixing river with drainage water, the river water helped to reduce the salinity of the well and the drainage water, bringing the plant height to 54.9 and 62, respectively. Additionally, the height of the plant reached to 55.8 cm. when river was mixed with well and drainage water together. The results found that the mixing of river water with wells or drainages reduces the amount of fresh water used in agriculture. The results also indicated the possibility of using the water of wells when mixed with the water of rivers since the resulting water shows little difference compared to the waters of the rivers.
