The results showed that there are nine species of Phelipanche distributed in Iraq, these species are: P. aegyptiaca, P. coelestis, P. hypertomentosa, P. mutelii, P. nana, P. orientalis, P. oxylopa, P. ramosa and P. umqasrensis. The Aegyptian Broomrape P. aegyptiaca is the most common and widespread species distributed in nine phytogeography districts of Iraq (in about more than fifty percent of the Iraqi district). It has also the highest abundance and density in its distribution, followed by P. mutelli occur in 8 districts then P. ramosa and P. coelestis with 5 districts for each. Our results showed that the richest district in number of Broomrape species is the Sulaymanya district (MSU) with 7 species followed by Amadia district (AMA) with 5 species followed by Rowanduz District (MRO), Sinjar District (MJS) and Southern Desert District (DSD) with 4 species for each. Some species like P. hypertomentosa and P. umqasrensis occur in a restricted environment with a characteristic soil conditions, sand or sandy gravel soil in the southern desert (DSD) only while P. orientalis occurs only in the mountain region with a brown and rocky soils, while P. aegyptiaca occurs in various habitat with different types of soils.
