چکیده مقاله:

Introduction:Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and the first cause of mortalityin40to45years olds women, and is considered as the second cause of women mortality afterskin cancers. Breast ultrasound and mammography are the best ways for early diagnosis ofthis disease. The aims of this study were investigated the Agreement of breast ultrasound andmammography results in patients referring to pathology labs of Imam Reza hospital inBirjand during 1390-1391.Materials and Methods:This descriptive-analytic study was performed on all patients with suspected breast cancerreferring to pathology labs of Imam Reza hospitals during 01.07.1390 and 30.12.1391 whoseultrasound and mammography was available. Data gathering tools included a checklistcontaining patient s demographic information, size of lymph nodes, and findings of breastultrasound and mammography. Data was analyzed using SPSS15 statistical software andKappa agreement coefficient at level of significance 0.05.Results:From 101 patients under study, 38 cases (%37.6) were older than 40 years and 78 participants(%77.2) lived in urban areas. Mammography of 42 patients (%41.6) showed positiveNeoplasia which was benign in 26 cases (%25.7) and malignant in 16 cases (%15.8). Themost common type was IDC (Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma). Ultrasound of 74 patients(%73.3) showed positive neoplasm which was benign in 57 cases (%56.4) and malignant in15 cases (%14.9). Moreover, fibrocystic was reported in 5 patients (%5). The results ofultrasound and mammography were negative in 79 patients and positive in 9 cases. In otherwords, there was an agreement between the two methods up to 87.2 per cent which wasstatistically significant (Kappa agreement coefficient= 0.51, p<0.001).Conclusion:Regarding the significant agreement between ultrasound and mammography s, it isrecommended to use mammography as a supplementary method with breast ultrasound.
