Sorption-enhanced steam methane reforming is an interesting process for the production of hydrogen without any pollution. In this process, the steam reforming catalyst is mixed with a CO2 sorbent. During the reaction, CO2 is adsorbed with sorbent and causes the increase in methane conversion and hydrogen yield. In this paper, a mixture of Hydrotalcites as CO2 sorbent and Ni/γ-Al2O3 as reforming catalyst was used for sorptionenhanced steam methane reforming process. The ability of these materials to use in the process was characterized with XRD and TPR. It has been shown that experimentally, when adsorbent to catalyst ratio increases and total feed gas rate decreases, the methane conversion and hydrogen yield were increased. An optimum temperature exists for maximum enhancement of methane conversion. The results achieved indicating that use of CO2 sorbent in steam methane reforming process, in comparison with conventional process, increases the methane conversion and the hydrogen yield.
