The Creation of an Infrastructure as a Service:Experiences and Challenges

Cloud computing provides its users the ability to leverage computational resources based on their demand and according to their requirements. One of the biggest advantages of such an approach is that the waste in computational resources would be reduced to a minimum. In order to provide a proper response to the needs of its laboratories, computer engineering department of Iran University of science and technology has decided to create an infrastructure as a service center well- known in the cloud computing paradigm. At its core, the center uses Openstack as one of the most widely-accepted and commonly used open source platforms for managing infrastructural resources. In this paper, we will review the strategic decisions being made by the major contributors of the center. To this end, we will first discuss about the fundamental concepts in cloud computing and move on to exchange views on the pipelines, challenges, and experiences gained throughout the process
