چکیده مقاله:

The present study was an attempt to investigate the relationship between translation competence and sociolinguistic competence of Iranian expert translators. To perform this, 150 male and female English to Persian translators in Mashhad, Iran were selected. Then, the participants were asked to complete translation competence questionnaire. The translation competence questionnaire was administrated in order to measure the participants translationcompetence ability. The questionnaire has three subcategories including Translation Error Instrument (TEI), Translation Notions Instrument (TNI) and Translation Problems Instrument (TPI). After that, to measure the participants sociolinguistic competence questionnaire, the sociolinguistic competence questionnaire was adapted and used. Having administered the questionnaires, raw data were collected and analyzed through appropriate statistical tests (i.e., a series of Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient). The obtained findings revealedthat there was relationship between translation competence and sociolinguistic competence of Iranian expert translators. Moreover, there were relationships between TEI, TPI, TNI and sociolinguistic competence of Iranian expert translators. At last, there was no relationship between the translation competence and sociolinguistic competence of Iranian expert translators with regard to their genders.
