The Relationship Between Iranian EFL Learners’ Asscertiveness and Their Emotional Intelligence: The Case of Course Achievement in Focus

The present study sought to investigate the relationship between EFL learners’ Emotional Intelligence (hereafter EI) and assertiveness in their course achievement. In order to meet the objectives of the study an available sampling procedure was exerted. A total of 103 EFL students, 29 males and 74 females, were selected to function as the participants of the study. Two different questionnaires, one on EI containing 33 items and the other on assertiveness comprising 30 items, were utilized to collect the data. The result of Pearson correlation and independent samples t-test revealed a significant relationship between EI and course achievement. In addition, step-wise analysis showed that EI is a good predicator of course achievement. The findings also illustrated that there is no significant difference between males and females in either EI or assertiveness. The results of this study shed light on the necessity of fostering EFL learners’ EI to achieve success in language learning.
