Adoption of e-Learning in Higher Education Institution: Its Rapid Evolution, Cost-Effectiveness and Way Forward for Developing Countries

This paper discusses the factors that need to be considered in adopting e-Learning in higher education institutions, especially in developing countries such as Malaysia and Iran. The rapid evolution of elearning, considerations in its adoption that include discussion on cost efficiency and cost effectiveness, the initiatives undertaken by Universiti Putra Malaysia and the challenges faced in the enculturation of e- Learning through the introduction of a single learning management system for the whole campus are discussed. The way forward in adoption of e-Learning in developing countries concluded the discussion.
