چکیده مقاله:

Dermatophytosis is a superficial fungal infection in keratinized substrates and caused by a group of filamentous fungi called dermatophytes. Among these fungi, Trichophyton rubrum (T.rubrum) is known to account for as many as 69.5% of all dermatophyte infections. Trichophyton rubrum with worldwide distribution is a human dermatitis and it causes dermatophyte infection in the groin, foot and nail. Often in infections caused by T.rubrum the treatment strategies are based on the use of griseofulvin and terbinafine but the chronic form of the infections are resistant to treatment and remain for a long time. Silver or silver ions have long been known to have strong inhibitory and bactericidal effect as well as a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the antifungal effects of silver nanoparticles and griseofulvin on T.rubrum in vitro.Material & Methods: Different concentrations of silver nanoparticles and Griseofulvin were prepared. Antifungal effects of silver nanoparticles and Griseofulvin against T.rubrum were investigated by agar dilution method. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentrations (MFC) were determined using microdilution in Sabouraud Dextrose Broth. Results: In the present study, obtained results of antifungal activity reveal that the growth of T. rubrum was inhibited in > 62.5ppm of silver nanoparticles and > 250ppm of griseofulvin. In the broth microdilution method It was found that the MIC of silver nanoparticles is 62.5 ppm and MIC of griseofulvin is 250 ppm. Also the MFC of silver nanoparticles is 125 ppm and MFC of griseofulvin is 500 ppm. Conclusion: Our observation revealed that Ag-Nps could inhibit the growth of T.rubrum. silver nanoparticles can be more effective in treatment of tinea or other infections caused by T.rubrum than grisefulvin in animals and humans and it can be a better candidate for the treatment of the infections caused by the fungi T.rubrum.
