چکیده مقاله:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between demographic factors, driving behaviour and crash involvement of bus drivers. To this end, a randomly selected sample of bus drivers from Kashan, Iran, participated the survey. They were asked to complete a questionnaire containing a Persian version of the BDRI questionnaire as well as some questions regarding their background information and at-fault crash involvement history, during the past three years. Results indicate that drivers with more than 15 years of driving experience, self-reported significantly better scores in the Patient driving behaviors. Vehicle ownership was found to improve hazard monitoring and thrill seeking behaviors of bus drivers. Among driver age groups, 45-54 years old and above 55 years old drivers had the lowest and highest self-reported crash involvement rates (9.1% and 29.2%), respectively. In addition, higher crash involvement rates were self -reported by those drivers that had less than 5 years of driving experience, those that worked more than one job as well as higher educated drivers. Crash involved drivers also tended to have significantly lower scores on the Hazard Monitoring factor, compared to non-crash involved drivers. Further discussions on the current findings for bus transit safety are provided.
