چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Globally, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignancy and the leading cause of cancer death in women. About one-half of newly diagnosed breast cancers can be explained by known risk factors, such as Female gender, white women, older age, age at menarche, Obesity, Nulliparity, Infertility, menopause, Tall stature, Estrogen levels, Personal history and Family history of breast cancer, proliferative breast disease. In addition, risk may be modified by demographic, lifestyle (Smoking, Night shift work, Breastfeeding, Physical activity), and environmental factors such as the use of deodorant and anti perspiration.Aim: This aim of review article was to determine the relationship between use of deodorants or antiperspirants and the risk of breast cancer. Methods: This study provides an overview of review articles published in more than 24 sites, Pubmed, SID, Cochran, Proquest, ScineceDirect in 2003 and 2013 respectively.Result: Harvey PW and Darbre P (2004) has done a study about could oestrogenic chemicals in body care cosmetics adversely affect breast cancer incidence in women. The result of this study shown that further research may provide the first evidence that environmental factors may be adversely affecting human health by endocrine disruption.Darbre P D (2003) has done a study about Underarm cosmetics and breast cancer. Thec result It has been suggested recently that underarm cosmetics might be a cause of breast cancer .Namer A et al (2008) has done a study the use of deodorants/antiperspirants does not constitute a risk factor for breast cancer. The result of this study shown that no scientific evidence to support the hypothesis was identified and no validated hypothesis appears likely to open the way to interesting avenues of research.Discusion: The use of deodorants/antiperspirants have any effect on the increase in the risk of breast cancer. A causal relationship between the use of deodorants/antiperspirants and breast cancer be accepted. A biological basis for breast carcinogenesis could result from the ability of the various constituent chemicals to bind to DNA and to promote growth of the damaged cells. It is suggested more research in future about the effect of deodorants/antiperspirants on breast cancer.
