Knowledge and performance of students and healthcare personnel about human papilloma virus and its vaccination in mazandaran 2017

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of fetal deaths among women of reproductive age in developing countries and is the fourth most commonly reported female malignant disease in the world.15% of cervical cancers are associated with the HPV virus. The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of health personnel and students about their HPV virus infection, which can increasecommunity awareness in this field. This study is a descriptive-analytic study that was carried out on 200 health students and health workers in Chalous, Noshahr and Noor and Amol cities. A questionnaire containing 14 questions of knowledge and one question functional was filled up by them and analyzed with SPSS Software. The analysis was performed using Kruskal-Wallis test. Most of the participantswere 20-25 years old with 64.5% and midwifery with 55% and students with 61%. The mean score of the total score was 10.54 ± 2.24 and the mean score of knowledge was 10.45 ± 2.16, and the rateKnowledge only had a significant relationship with the field of study(P=0/0001) and 91% of the vaccine was aware of HPV, but only 9.5% of the participants were vaccinated against HPV. Considering the lower level of knowledge about human papillomavirus among other fields studied in this research, such as nursing and laboratory science, it is suggested that educational programs be developed to raise awareness of the human papillomavirus virus and vaccination and its benefits. And the conditions for vaccine injection are facilitated by health authorities
