چکیده مقاله:

The issue of providing safe transportation in the rural road networks is one of the basic principles of transportation planning. Lack of safety, especially in rural roads cause adverse events that usually accompany by causalities. Road accidents impose life and financial damage on human societies. So investigating factors affecting severity of accidents in rural roads seems necessary. In this study, rural roads of Farahan city (in Arak province) was considered as case study and the accidents data during summer of 2011- 2014 were collected from the relevant institutions and organization. The unit databaseincluding 2047 samples were analyzed. Dependent variables were classified to damage accidents and injury-mortal accidents. Also, independent variables such as driver specifications, accident specifications, environment specifications, traffic specifications and the road geometrical specifications were considered as parameters. For assessing factors affecting severity of accidents, Binary Logit model was applied using SPSS software with backward method. Investigating the result indicates that factors such as not guilty motorcycle vehicle type collision, collision with pedestrians and guilty motorcycle vehicle type collision were identified as most affecting factors on severity of accidents, respectively.
