چکیده مقاله:
Disposing of large volumes of waste of the today s society is a current issue. Various approaches such as recycling, composting, and burning are of much interest, but even after burning, 10 to 20 percent of the waste will remain which must be buried. Comparative studies of different approaches indicates that the most cost-effective way of disposal is using landfills. One of the main disadvantages of hygienic burial of waste in landfills is the environmental issues resulted by the leachate. In Iran, landfills produce larger amounts of a more contaminant leachate from those of the developed countries since the wastes in Iran contain much more organic material and are not managed and separated properly in their origins. Furthermore, Iran is facing water resources shortages since most of the climes in Iran are dry or semi-dry where rainfall is scarce. Managing leachate as of the main pollutants of water resources and environment is vital. Hence is the current study investigates different ways of leachate filterability from municipal waste landfills.
