چکیده مقاله:
Microbial-Induced Corrosion (MIC) is one of the most prevalent deterioration mechanisms found onboard offshore oil and gas producing installations. This problem is, in particular, more acute for the aging installations which lack a proper Corrosion Management System/Strategy(CMS). This issue is usually more severe within the Water Injection Systems associated with offshore installations and could also be found in other water-handling systems such as: Produced
Water. CoolingWater, Fire Water, Drains and Diesel (where diesel is displacedby water). This paper initially explores the basics of MIC such as: bacteria nutrition and growth conditions, physical conditions for bacterial growth, types ofbacteria, MlC mechanisms (with a greater emphasis on the SRB mechanisms) and locations where MIC are found. Finally it provides some general guidelines on combatingMIC. This paper is also supplemented with a reference section which intends to capture the best rules ofthumb and practices regarding MIC and its mitigationin the form ofbullet points.
