The Effects of Digital Architecture on Middle East Appearance

Digital architecture as a pioneer proceeding architectural style has caused fundamental influences on buildings’ forms and configurations. These form evolutions are categorized in free form design, parametric design and haphazard design. Also, digital architecture has developed construction methods due to its advanced technologic consequences such as CAD/CAM techniques, prefabrication and digital assembling. Therefore, this integrated style of architecture has altered the appearance of cities by emerging innovative and distinct building forms. In the other words, digital architecture has remodeled the cities by offering new geometries and morphologies. On the other hand, Middle East as a fast growing part of the globe with a huge volume of construction projects, has a strong potential for applying digital architecture. In this paper, the positive and negative effects of digital architecture and digital fabrication on the appearance of Middle East’s cities and buildings is investigated and the evolution process of this appearance alternation is reviewed. Also, several case studies are perused in order to identify that where the digital architecture has improved the buildings appearance and where it has changed the identity of buildings in an inappropriate way.
