Metal oxide Particles at nanosize scale are of great interest because their properties differ in fundamental and valuable ways from those of individual atoms and molecules or bulk matter. These properties can be exploited in many products such as catalysts, high energy density batteries, ceramics and high density information storage materials. The paper presents a novel, efficient and environmentally benign method to produce fine metal oxide nanoparticles in wide range by hydrothermal method at supercritical conditions. X-ray diffraction patterns of nearly 15 important metal oxide samples synthesized at high temperature water reveal that the products are pure metal oxide nanoparticles with well-defined crystalline structures. When the hydrothermal temperature is above 500 C, no impurity is detected in the product obtained under this condition with same starting prescription. Transmission electron microscopic images show that the size of the as-prepared is nanometric and fine in narrow distribution.
