چکیده مقاله:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the Comparative Effect of Perfectionism vs. Optimalism on Iranian Intermediate Learners Willingness to Communicate (WTC) and their L2 Speaking. This study was applied to 60 Iranian Intermediate learners who were randomly divided into two groups of perfectionist and optimist learners of Azad University of Tehran, Shahr-e-Qods Branch majoring English Language Translation. They were assigned to two experimental groups of 30 based on random sampling. The age range of the participants was between 19 to 25, and their gender varied. After administering the questionnaires and collecting the required data, the data was fed into SPSS for final analysis and testing the research null hypotheses. The results of the statistical analysis revealed that there is a statistically significant difference between Iranian Intermediate learners’ willingness to communicate and L2 speaking in both perfectionist and optimalist groups. The results also indicated that the scores in the perfectionism group significantly predict the scores in willingness to communicate and L2 speaking scales. They also provided some suggestions for further studies. The findings of this study can help all those who are engaged in language teaching, teacher training, material development, syllabus design, and teaching-learning process to possess a better perspective into developing efficient instructions.
