Relationship between Match or Mismatch of EFL Teachers and Students Thinking Styles and Reading Comprehension: The Case of Iranian Advanced Learners

In the present study, the authors investigated the correlation of match or mismatch of EFL teachers and students thinking styles and reading comprehension at the advanced levels. Students (40 male and 34 female) from the Oxfordlanguage institute of Ahvaz responded to the self-report test: the MSG Thinking Styles Inventory (Sternberg & Wagner,1991). Results indicated that Iranian EFL teachers and their advanced students matching thinking styles positivelycorrelated with their performance on reading comprehension. Results of multiple-regression analysis indicated that 8 out of 13 thinking styles: legislative, progressive, conservative, hierarchical, monarchic, oligarchic, anarchic, and external styles significantly predicted creativity styles. It is suggested that EFL instructors pay due attention to the match or mismatch of their own and their students’ thinking styles in advance.
