Economic Growth, Renewable Energy and its impact on Environment and Co2 Emissions

In the last two decades, the reliance on traditional energy sources has created great concern due to the adverse environmental impact, greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. So, in recent years the relationship between renewable energy consumption and Co2 emissions have been more interested among the researchers. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between economic growth, renewable energy and carbon dioxide emission as an indicator of environment quality for a panel of ten Asian developing countries over the period 2000-2014. The panel cointegration and panel vector error correction model (Panel-VECM) causality is employed to examine the long-run and causal relationships between the variables of interest. The result of panel cointegratin indicates the long-run relationship between economic growth, renewable energy and co2 emissions. Regarding to the panel causality results, there is evidence of bidirectional causality between renewable energy and co2 emission, bidirectional causality between GDP and co2, and unidirectional causality from GDP to renewable energy.
