چکیده مقاله:

Making Polyolefin s such as Polypropylene antibacterial according to their extensive uses in food packaging industries, medical instruments, furniture, cloths and etc is important. In this study, chitosan was used for preparation of antibacterial polypropylene. For chitosan immobilization, utilized a melt mixing grafting to active PP, followed bygrafting with acrylic acid (AA) and then coupling with chitosan molecules by using of N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N´-ethylcarbodiimide (EDC) as a coupling agent. Results showed the degree of immobilization of chitosan on PP increased with graft ratio of AA on PP. the samples were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. In the FTIR of PP-g- AA samples which contained the chitosan, the new absorption peaks (CO-NH) were appeared. The antibacterial activity of the samples was evaluated according to ASTM E-2149 by Escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial property showed significant reduction in viability of the cell in 72h contact time
