Positive and Negative Presentation: The Manipulation of Ideology in Translation of Iranian Political News Titles

Translation has been investigated from various perspectives, which involves both linguistic and social aspects. The present study was an attempt to investigate the manipulation of ideologies in translation of political headlines. Based on CDA approach, 100 English political news published in 2015 alongside their corresponding Persian translations, were critically analyzed both at micro and macro levels. The obtained results indicated that certain grammatical and lexical strategies of positive self-presentation and negative other-presentation as well as the employment of self (Iranian) interests were used. The obtained results of the analysis of the macro features also revealed that the ideological trends and judgments were toward the source headlines manifested negative attitudes by pointing out their hostility toward special affairs. The potential implications of the findings might be applicable to syllabus designers as well as ESP teachers and students.
