Comparative Study of Various Methods of Speed Control of an Induction Motor

Induction motors are broadly used electrical motors owing to their reliability, Low fee, ruggedness and robustness. Nevertheless, induction motors do not intrinsically have the ability of variable speed operation. For this reason, before that DC motors were employed in most of the electrical drive. But the recent developments in techniques of speed control of the asynchronous motor have led to their large scale use in virtually all electrical drives. In the present paper, different methods of speed control of induction motors such as variable rotor resistance, variable stator voltage, constant V/F control, frequency variation, pole changing, etc., accomplished and MATLAB software was used to develop the codes for the analysis of these methods. Finally, the vector control method for induction motor speed control is provided.
