چکیده مقاله:
L٢ learners, in addition to learning structural, discoursal, and strategic rules, need to internalize sociolinguistic rules in order to select appropriate l٢ forms .Therefore, L٢ learners need to improve their sociolinguistic competence in order to communicate successfully. Due to the effect of sociolinguistic competence on L٢ communication; this study attempts to focus on the effect of instruction on L٢ learners' sociolinguistic awareness. The results of this study show that formal instruction of the sociocultural rules of language use can help L٢ learners communicate more appropriately and effectively in L٢ context. However, teachers may not teach sociolinguistic issues in their classes because of lack of time, lack of self-confidence, and their students' attitudes.
