Adoption of Web 2.0 tools to Improve Knowledge Sharing in Academic Libraries

The emerging field of knowledge management offers academic libraries the opportunity to reate knowledge to improve organizational effectiveness, for both their users and their nstitutions. To prove their relevance and value, academic libraries must strive to provide the right amount of information to the right clientele at the right time with a right expense of inancial and human resources. It should be noted that the major steps of km are capturing which resides within the organization and making it available to others in the organization. In a digital environment, knowledge can be shared in the form of knowledge-based services and products including email, Web 2.0, websites and other collaboration tools. As mentioned, Web 2.0 can be leveraged to support knowledge sharing. Hence, this study examines the use of Web 2.0 technologies as platforms for sharing knowledge between the academic libraries and their users. This was done by carrying out a survey of the librarians, from which 44 valid responses were collected. The survey found that a significant percentage of librarians preferred a library website for sharing research projects. Again, there was a strong preference for the use of a library website for sharing teaching methods between users and the academic libraries. While a significant percentage of librarians reported that their preferred method for explore the use of Web 2.0 technologies for sharing knowledge between the academic ibraries and their users.
