چکیده مقاله:

The polymeric blend of polypyrrole and PVPI is deposited on the cotton fabric to create a novel conductive antiseptic bandage. Iodine molecules trapped inside the matrix of the fabric are gradually released to the surrounding which is needed for antibacterial activity. Antibacterial properties were tested on Escherichia coli and Staphilococcie areous bacterias according to Mack Farland standard, showing high efficiency over 24h on E.coli.Effects of temperature on polymerization and antibacterial activity were studied and it was shown that conductivity and antibacterial activity of the film increased as temperature of polymerization decreased. In addition, the specific resistivity of our prepared samples was in the range of 700 to 5270 Ω. m which was low enough that a significant electrical current could pass through the material. This electrical property makes it possible to enhance recovery of nerves and muscle tissue damage through electrical stimulation. Also same test was done by means of Ag as antibacterial agent instead of PVPI. Antibacterial test showed high efficacy over 48h on Echerichia coli and Staphilococcie areous bacterias. However, after washing the fabric for 4 times, resistance increased due to removal of polypyrrole particles, but the cotton fabric still retained it’s antibacterial properties. The presence of iodine and silver in the finished bandage material was confirmed using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy along the FE-SEM imaging.
