Investigation of the Surface and mechanical Properties of Nitride Coating Created Using Plasma Nitriding on Hot Work Steel

چکیده مقاله:

In this research, the effects of plasma nitriding parameters including frequency and duty cycle were investigated on samples with different grooves in the two method conventional plasma nitrided (CPN) and active screen plasma nitrided (ASPN). Assemblies sample consisting of rectangular grooved steel blocks with different groove dimensions of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 (W) x 40 (H) x 20 (L) mm3 and AISI H13 steel plates with dimensions of 10 x 40 x 60 mm3, were prepared. The samples were conventional and active screen plasma nitrided under the atmosphere content of 25%H2-75%N2, The temperature of 500 , the duty cycles of 40%, 60%, 80%, and the frequencies of 8, 10 kHz for 5 hours. Then the properties of the nitrided samples were investigated by roughness of the surface measurements, case depth, phase composition and micro hardness profile. The results of the experiments indicated that with increasing frequency, the duty cycle, and the width of the grooves, the roughness of the surfaces increased in two methods. The hardness and nitrided case depth increased with increasing the width of the groove and the duty cycle for both methods. Also, in each sample, Hallow cathode effect occurred at the sample with 2 mm width groove and with duty cycle 80%, in the CPN method, leading to the overheating of the sample.
