چکیده مقاله:

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, autoimmune, inflammatory, demyelinating, neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system affecting young adults. The cause of MS is unknown; however, susceptibility to MS is thought to be conferred by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. During the last decades, through to the clinical and pathophysiological complexities of the disease, diagnostic biomarkers for MS as well as other diseases is required and this is questionable. Genetic studies show that genes encoding antigens major histocompatibility complex (HLA) particularly class II is one of the biomarkers, related to increased susceptibility to the disease. Based on different studies, the association between HLA alleles and MS disease susceptibility is controversial. The aim of our study was to determine presence of HLA-DQB1*02 haplotype in a population of patients with multiple sclerosis in Iran.
