Spiral plate heat exchangers are used in wide range of industrials especially in some which they have to handle with high viscose fluids. In such situations a common alternative for heat exchanger designers is the spiral plate heat exchanger. As an objective the major task in heat exchanger design is to reach to the minimum heat surface within the maximum allowable pressure drop ranges. The traditional basic heat exchanger design for spiral plate heat exchangers needs a try and error procedure so that the calculated surface may not be reached to an optimum values. In this article using the concept of rapid design algorithm a procedure for design of spiral heat exchangers is developed. In this procedure the size of heat exchanger calculated by considering of maximum allowable pressure drop so that the surface area requirement for a given duty is calculated smaller that the other methods. This leads to a major reduction on capital cost. The accuracy of this algorithm is evaluated by comparing the results with current design methods.
