چکیده مقاله:

Translation of a literary work reaches well beyond the literary system of the source text. The choices made depend to a large extent on social, cultural and ideological norms, the comparative importance of source and target cultures, decisions of selecting a novel for translation do not exist in a vacuum. The approaches which are applied by the translators in choosing the novels always is under influence of different factors such as culture, ideology, language, patronage etc. After Islamic Revolution in Iran, different approaches of the publishers and Ministry of Culture for giving publication permission for the literary works changed the destiny of many books. Different types of censorship and market conditions influenced the translated works. Present study attempts to investigate the influence of the mentioned patrons and dominant norms in selection of novels for translation. Therefore, the literary translations of Reza Rezaei are studied in this research in order to determine the translation policy of the translator and the publisher. Gideon Toury’s approach on translational norms” forms the theoretical framework of the research. By focusing on Toury’s preliminary norms and reviewing the extratextual sources such as translator’s interviews with newspapers and periodicals, his statements in translated works’ introductions, the different policies of the translator will be recognised. The translator selects the world classics for translating in order to escape the blade of censorship. Since the translator works on literary classics of the world, it seems that he emphasized on increasing the literary knowledge of the readers in Iran
