Joining of Al-Foam to plate by Al-Zn-Mg powders as an interlayer

Cellular metallic materials have attracted more and more attention in the last few decades with increased availability of practical manufacturing technologies and improved understanding of their physical, chemical and mechanical properties. In this paper, joining of Al-Foam to plate was investigated by using Al-5.5Zn-2.5Mg powder as inter layer. After pre-treatment had been carried on the foam species and plates, mixture of Al-Zn-Mg powder was spread between plate and foam and had been sintered at 610oC for 30 minutes. Microscopic observations and mechanical testing were taken on samples and Energy dispersion X-ray spectrometer (EDS) confirmed the diffusion of Zn and Mg element from the inter layer to aluminium foam and plate
