The Comparison of Male Students’ Personality Type, Self-esteem, and Aggression in Individual and Team Sports

Background: The purpose of the present study was the comparison of the amount of aggressiveness, personality traits and self-confidence in individual and team athletes.Materials and Methods: This study was descriptive. Statistical population of this study was all the male high school athletes in Dorud city. The sample consisted of 65 team athletes (43 subject from football and 22 subjects from basketball) and 86 individual athletes (35subjects from wresting, 31 subjects from karate, and 20 subjects from judo) that they were selected by cluster sampling. A questionnaire with 86 items was used as the gathering instrument of data in this study; this questionnaire was the combination of the EysenckPersonality Questionnaire, Cooper smith Self-esteem Inventor, and the part of aggressionquestionnaire of 90 items. The analysis of data was done by Mann- Whitney U test (P < 0.05).Results: the result of this study showed that there was no significant difference between the personality type, self-esteem, and aggression in team and individuals sports. Conclusion: consequently, according to the findings of this study, it appears that the typeof sport (individual or team) has no effect on the rate of the personality type, self-esteem, and aggression.
