Assess the impact of ICT on the quality of the environment in Iran and the countries of the Persian Gulf

Undoubtedly, in recent decades, information and communication technology (ICT) has created massive changes in all spheres of social and economic. Scope of application and effectiveness of this technology today has become one of the most important issues of the day and has attracted the attention of many countries of the world. ICT impacts on the environment can be of different dimensions. So that it can be expected that the use of technology can have a positive effect on the environment or vice versa, can have a devastating impact on environmental sustainability. The use of ICT can provide a reduction of dependence on the environment and other ICT tools and equipment such as computers, cell phones and other substances harmful to the environment, can have a negative impact on the environment.Therefore, the present study has been assess effects of ICT on quality of the environment in Iran and 7 country in the Persian Gulf area in the period 2005 to 2012 using panel data methods. The results show that telephone lines as an ICT indicators has negative and significant effect, GDP per capita variable positive effect and concentration of population and GDP per capita squared had a negative effects on quality of the environment. Also It should be noted, the results obtained has approved the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis.
