Development of gas chromatography–mass spectrometry with distillation for rapid determination of volatile constituents in aerial part stachys setifera and antioxidative properties of methanolic extract from Iran

The essential oil of the aerial parts of stachys setifera (Lamiaceae) was isolated by hydro-distillation. The chemical composition of volatile oil was analyzed by capillary GC and GC/MS. The main components were found to be: caryophyllene oxide(14.47%), piperitenone oxide(10.14%), 2-pentandecanone(7.89%), linalool(7.19%). The antioxidant property of methanolic extract of the plant was determined using the 1,1- diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay.
