A STUDY OF THE CITIZENS’ BEHAVIOR AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS INDOOR AIR POLLUTION IN MASHHAD AND AN ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECTIVE FACTORS IN CONTROLLING IT (A CASE STUDY IN THE DISTRICT 9 IN MASHHAD)

Along with introducing welfare to human life, the industrial revolution and current technologies have brought about different kinds of environmental pollution like air pollution. Given the increasing density of present settlements and air pollution in urban areas, indoor air pollution is escalating day by day, affecting residents more than before. So this research has been carried out aiming to study the effect of different parameters such as age, gender, and education on public awareness and culture in regard to indoor air pollution, its sources, and its problems in Mashhad. Using the quantitative research method and questionnaires, this research sampled 47 people living on Kosar Boulevard in Mashhad. Then, different statistical techniques and methods like descriptive analysis (percentage and frequency) and deductive analysis (the Chi-squared test multivariable test) were used to analyze data and purify or categorize information. The results of the study indicate that most people have felt the pollution inside their homes and had no particular information about the source of such pollution and the effective solutions for reducing it except for being vaguely informed by the media. Accordingly, it seems really necessary to raise awareness and provide training through different ways like running training courses, providing brochures and instructive posters, using newspapers, and making radio and television programs more than ever. It is hoped that remarkable achievements are made in environmental protection with the aid of training programs and raising public awareness of the environment as well as adopting positive policies.
