Preparation and Characterization of Mixed Oxide Nano Composit (NiO/ OMS-2) Catalyst for the Oxidation of Alcohols in Liquid Phase

This work reports the synthesis and characterization of mixed oxide nickel-manganese NiO/K-OMS-2 atvarious Ni/Mn molar ratios and prepared by precipitation method. Characterization of these new composite materialswas made by XRD and SEM techniques. Results of these analyses showed that nickel impregnated samples containedmixed phases of cryptomelane and crystalline NiO species. Oxidation of benzyl alcohol was studied in the liquid phaseover the NiO/K-OMS-2 catalyst using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as the oxidant. Activity of the NiO/K-OMS-2samples was increased considerably with respect to K-OMS-2 catalyst due to the interaction of manganese oxide andNiO. The effects of reaction temperature, oxidant / alcohol molar ratio, catalyst recycling potential were investigated.
