چکیده مقاله:

In this study the effect of nanoparticles on mass transfer of liquid-liquid extraction process for the ternarychemical system of toluene−acetic acid−water was investigated. Single drop extraction experiments with a range ofnozzle diameters within 0.1−0.51 cm were carried out. Different volume concentrations of hydrophilic SiO2 nanoparticlesin the range of 0.005−0.1% were dispersed in stagnant continuous phase water as base fluid. Results demonstrate negativeimpact of nanoparticle presence on the overall mass transfer coefficients and at a nanoparticle volume fraction of 0.1%,maximum decrease of 22% in mass transfer rate was observed, which was attributed to increase in viscosity and reductionof contact area by nanoparticles at the liquid-liquid interface.
