Comparison of pain catastrophizing and intimacy between female with and without Dyspareunia

چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Dyspareunia is a common psycho-physiologic disabling condition in females One of the most important confronting ways in presence of Dyspareunia is pain catastrophization. Methods: Forty-three eligible females with age range of 11-81 years who suffered from Dyspareunia who presented to specialty clinics. For women health Forty-three studied using Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) and Intimacy Scale (IS) Forty-three females who did not suffer from Dyspareunia and were matched to first group regarding age and educational comparised control group. Results: In comparing with two group mean PCS was 15.03 (33.1) in patient group and 25.02 (33.13) in control group. Mean scores of mental rumination (2.02(95.18) in patients and 2.52 (95.12) in controls), magnification (2.38 (93.31) in patients and 3..0 (93.32) in controls), helplessness (2.30 (95.11) in patients and 3.2. ± (5.1) in controls) showed significant difference between the two studied groups. Among indices of pain catastrophization in patient group, mean scores of rumination, magnification, and helplessness were higher than in healthy control group (P< 5.50). While there was no significant difference in intimacy scores between two group, there also found no significant correlation between catastrophization and intimacy in healthy women (r = 32. / 5 - ) and patients (r = -5/231) (P< 5.50) Conclusion: This study showed pain catastrophization and its indices were higher in females who suffered from Dyspareunia than in healthy ones. Regarding the high frequency of pain catastrophization, depression, and anxiety in females with Dyspareunia, the necessity to provide psychological interventions provided by psychiatrists and psychologists in clinics women.
