The heat transfer and fluid flow of water/functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (FMWCNT) nanofluids over a flat plate has been investigated in the present study. Simulations were performed for velocity ranging from 0.00017 m/s to 0.0017 m/s (laminar regime) and nanoparticle volume fractions of 0.00 to 0.2 %. The 2-D governing equations were solved with a in-house FORTRAN code. The results demonstrated that that for a specific free stream velocity, increasing the volume fraction of nanoparticles enhances the convective heat transfer coefficient and consequently the Nusselt number (Nu), velocity magnitude and stream function while an increase in the solid volume fraction had a negligible effect on the wall shear stress. The results also indicated that increasing the free stream velocity for all cases caused the velocity profile to develop in a shorter distance down the plate.
