Some Evidences about the Position of the Zagros Suture Zone, Iran

The Zagros orogen is a collisional belt in the central part of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic chain between Iranian continent and Arabian platform. One of the main discrepancies about this orogenic belt is the position of the suture between Iranian and Afro-Arabian continents. In this study changes in tectonic activity, deformation intensity, metamorphic grade and some other factors of the south-central part of the Zagros hinterland fold-and-thrust belt and the Sanandaj-Sirjan HP-LT metamorphic belt have been analyzed. This analysis indicates that the suture is located between the Sanandaj-Sirjan HP-LT metamorphic belt and the Zagros foreland fold-and-thrust belt
