Architecture of Possibility (an architecture providing affordances): with a glance to modern and traditional architectures

The architecture, as a part of the environment and the place of human life, has an effective role in formation of human behavior and satisfaction of his needs. It must be able to provide a suitable context for human growth. Since the mankind is a complicated creature and his needs are various and variable, the architecture with its semi-fixed features will not be able to change as the human grows and develops. Therefore, the kind of the architecture is desirable which can be adapted to the human continual changes. Instead of presenting a single answer to a single need, thearchitecture should provide different affordances1 to satisfy different needs. This paper aims to investigate the different interpretations of creating the affordance, whereas it notices the contrasting approaches. While analyzing and reviewing different approaches, the paper suggests the traditional architecture with its potential capabilities, gained during the time and developed according to the local conditions, as a reference for today architecture to create the affordances.
