The Contribution of theBilingualism Studiesto SLA

Sociolinguistics is one of the main scientific studiesof how the society affects language use.The purpose of this research is to describe how bilingualism affects language teaching. The majority of the population in all around the world is either bilingual or multilingual.Since teaching in pure monolingual class is definitely different from teaching in bilingual or multilingual class, teachers need a sufficient knowledge about different strategies and also their cultures. At this stage in the research, the bilingualism as a sociolinguistic phenomenonwill be generally defined as having ability to use at least two languages.This research is a descriptive study on the bilingualism in sociolinguistics for the development of language teaching in the context of Iran. The findings of this research will be used to describe the positive and negative effects of bilingualism and provide useful information for teachers to reduce negative effects of bilingualism on English language teaching.
