چکیده مقاله:
Traffic accidents are one of the most serious public health problems with the contribution of human factors. The present study aimed to systematically review studies conducted on the relationship between personality traits and risky driving behaviors. This article is a review study that combines the findings of key studies over a long period of time with personality models (Big Five, Eysenck, Cloninger, Zuckerman), research methodology, measurement tools, different populations (regular drivers, professional drivers, motorcyclists and youth) and experience-modifying factors (age, mate, mate). A review of studies showed that excitability and impulsivity are the strongest predictors of risky behaviors such as illegal and drunk driving. Aggression-hostility is directly related to angry and risky driving, and neuroticism-anxiety is directly related to anxious driving and analyses. In contrast, agreeableness and conscientiousness act as protective factors and are associated with safe and altruistic behaviors. Studies also examine the roles of attitudes and risk perceptions, and the moderation of age, gender, and driving experience. New research on dynamic personality has shown that personality states change in risky situations. Personality traits play a determining role in explaining risky driving behaviors and design traffic safety interventions taking into account the personality profile, age, gender, and experience of drivers. Hence, there is a need to fill the existing research gaps, especially in northern and Iranian populations.
