چکیده مقاله:

Vernacular architecture of Iran is formed with extreme respect to site and geophysical specifications of earth. In this architecture emphasis are on topography, climate, light, tectonic form and human experience rather than the visual; also it has the least adverse effect on environment and is designed consistent with nature. Thus, it is observed that Iranian architectural characteristics conform to the rules of sustainable architecture; and can obtain sustainability in modern architecture by being reveled by certain features of traditional Iranian one. To make adjustment with nature, Iranian native architects in different climates of Iran have created a lot of innovations. One kind of these innovations which has been built underground is called Shavadan in the region of Dezful, in the province of Khuzestan. By using this element, people would be able to response to environmental problems of harsh climate these area.Research method in this paper is mainly descriptive and analytical. According to studies, in Dezful we can provide comfortable situation by using geothermal energy in hot days of summer (May to September) and some days of winter (November to March). Generally speaking, in Dezful with hot and semi-humid summer, major problem is protecting building from sunshine and cooling interior spaces in hot seasons (especially June to September). In winter, it may warm these spaces by using solar energy (passive solar systems), and sometimes (in some days of December to March) the situation is in comfort area of human by using simple thermal tools. In this paper, after studying Dezful climatic circumstance effects of these climatic elements on human and buildings has been provided. Finally utilizing Shavadan as a sustainable element to answer those tracks is suggested
