چکیده مقاله:
Dialdehyde cellulose nanocrystals (DCNCs) are promising materials owing to their diverse properties, making them suitable for a wide range of applications. The primary objective of this study was therefore to prepare DCNCs using sodium periodate (NaIO۴). To this end, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was first extracted from plant waste through alkali-acid treatment followed by a bleaching step. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were then obtained by hydrolyzing the as-prepared MCC with sulfuric acid (H۲SO۴). Finally, DCNCs were synthesized by oxidizing the CNCs with NaIO۴. The resulting DCNCs were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. FTIR analysis confirmed the successful introduction of aldehyde groups onto the DCNC surface. XRD results revealed that oxidation of CNCs led to degradation of their crystalline regions. The aldehyde group content (AGC) of DCNCs was determined to be ۲۳.۴۸ ±۰.۸۱ via an oxime-forming reaction. Overall, nanocomposites incorporating DCNCs can be developed for various applications, particularly in biomedicine.
