چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: This study aimed to investigate the association between different levels of physical activity (PA) and the angiographic severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in middle-aged women referred for this diagnostic procedure. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving ۱۴۰ middle-aged women (aged ۴۰-۶۰ years) undergoing coronary angiography. PA was assessed using the international physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ) and was categorized as low, moderate, or high. The primary outcome was angiographic CAD severity (normal, mild, moderate, or severe). The associations were analyzed using the chi-square test and a multivariate ordinal logistic regression, adjusting for age, body mass index, hypertension, and diabetes. Results: A statistically significant inverse dose-response relationship was observed between PA level and angiographic disease severity (χ²=۱۲۱.۴, P<۰.۰۰۱). In multivariate analysis, higher PA levels were independently associated with lower odds of severe CAD. Compared to the low-activity group, the moderate-activity group had ۹۱% lower odds (adjusted OR: ۰.۰۹; ۹۵% CI, ۰.۰۴%, ۰.۲۲%), and the high-activity group had ۹۸% lower odds (adjusted OR: ۰.۰۲; ۹۵% CI, ۰.۰۱%, ۰.۰۸%) of severe disease. All women in the high-activity group (۱۰۰%) had normal coronary arteries. Conclusion: Higher levels of habitual PA demonstrate strong, independent, and dose-dependent inverse associations with angiographic CAD severity in middle-aged women. These findings underscore the critical importance of promoting regular PA as a key strategy for preventing severe CAD in this demographic.
