چکیده مقاله:
This study examines the influence of school architectural design on students’ psychological well-being and educational performance, emphasizing the role of physical learning environments in shaping behavioral, emotional, and academic outcomes. Educational spaces are not merely functional settings but dynamic environments that can either enhance or hinder students’ motivation, concentration, social interaction, and sense of belonging. The research investigates how key architectural elements—such as natural lighting, spatial organization, ventilation, acoustics, color schemes, access to outdoor areas, safety-oriented design, and classroom flexibility—affect students’ learning experiences and mental states. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to students and teachers, on-site environmental observations, and analysis of existing research in educational architecture. Quantitative findings indicated significant correlations between positive environmental characteristics and improved academic engagement, reduced anxiety, and higher self-reported levels of satisfaction and emotional comfort among students. Qualitative feedback further revealed that well-lit classrooms, ergonomic seating, and visually appealing spaces increase attentiveness and reduce fatigue, while noise control and effective ventilation enhance cognitive focus. Moreover, the availability of open and green spaces was consistently associated with improved mood, stress reduction, and stronger peer interaction. The study also highlights the importance of culturally sensitive design solutions that reflect community identity and students’ social needs, fostering a stronger sense of attachment to the school environment. The results underscore the necessity of integrating architectural psychology into educational planning and policy-making, advocating for collaboration between architects, educators, and mental-health specialists in the design of learning spaces. Ultimately, this research demonstrates that thoughtfully designed school environments contribute not only to academic achievement but also to emotional stability, creativity, and social development. By recognizing school architecture as a critical determinant of educational quality, educational stakeholders can create supportive environments that promote holistic student growth and well-being, ensuring that future schools function as spaces that inspire learning, nurture mental health, and enhance overall educational effectiveness.
