چکیده مقاله:
This study critically examines the complex, dialectical relationship between residential architecture, processes of modernization, and the resultant changes in urban lifestyles within contemporary metropolitan contexts. Drawing on critical urban theory and spatial analysis, the paper addresses a significant lacuna in urban planning literature: the failure to holistically assess how global modernization forces-spanning economic shifts, technological advancements, and socio-cultural aspirations are materialized in domestic spaces and, consequently, how these material changes restructure daily life, identity, and social practices. Utilizing a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach, the research investigates how 'modern' architectural designs often impose prescribed patterns of living that may conflict with local cultural norms or exacerbate socio-spatial inequalities. Key findings reveal that the modernization of residential architecture, driven primarily by market logic and global aesthetic trends, frequently homogenizes the built environment, yet simultaneously creates new arenas for lifestyle differentiation and conspicuous domesticity among urban residents. The study concludes by arguing that successful urban planning must transcend purely functional and aesthetic considerations, demanding a framework that integrates an understanding of architecture as a critical mediator of social modernization. It proposes a policy framework for promoting culturally resonant and socio-economically equitable housing design, ultimately offering a substantial theoretical contribution by repositioning domestic space as a central, contested site for analyzing urban social change and planning interventions.
